Overall I think ruthless is better for new players even tho there are minimum items / rarity drops. But as a newcomer you still don't use trade and the item drops when you farm for a bit is quite okay in Ruthless I play HC SSF Ruthless and I can't imagine switching to regular play because the progress is much more fun with more entertaining
Map tabs go remove only in standard every league until you click Convert, then it gives you a new updated one. Map tab is designed to only hold the new map series every league so the old ones are always converted to a remove only. I have remove only tabs as if my character was transfered from a league over. Then you didn't make it in Standard.
Utility Flasks can not gain charges while active and have lower duration than they do in regular Path of Exile. Enkindling Orbs and Instilling Orbs do not exist in Ruthless. Obviously, Pathfinder (no changes withstanding) will shine when it comes to utility flasks, which are massive power-spikes.

So basically, you're allowed to buy two active skill gems per character.
Definitely take Practical Applicaiton and help Alira. That costs you 4 passives, and grants 25% all resists - which is huge in Ruthless where your resists on gear will suck. This will open up flexibility to take damage on gear, as well as taking rarity. Malicious Intent does less than you think. Bane is not curse tagged.
After 20 minutes of chipping away, even managing to get to phase 2, just get one-shot. In ruthless, you don't get to choose your build, so it's pure luck what you end-up with. I was really pleased. Even managed to max out my resists (except chaos, of course). This boss is basically a road block. No fun, all punishment, and if you have to take a
